A free, independent practice tool for NY State exams

NY State Exam Prep is a free resource created to help New York families, teachers, and students practice for the state ELA, Math, and Science assessments.

Most questions are written to feel like the real test. A small number are stretch questions meant to build confidence and make test day feel more manageable.

Tests are aligned to current New York State learning standards. Multiple choice questions are graded automatically. Written responses include the NY State rubric criteria and a model answer so you can score the response and talk through what full credit looks like.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Every test is available without signing up. Just choose your grade and start.

Why do some questions feel harder than the real exam?

A few questions are written as stretch practice. The goal is to build skills and confidence so the real test feels more comfortable. If your child gets stuck, that is okay — use it as a chance to learn what to work on next.

How should we score the written responses?

After submitting, each written question shows the NY State rubric criteria and a model answer. Read the student's response alongside both and assign a score of 0, 1, or 2 credits. The site calculates the total for you.

Are scores saved?

Not yet — score saving is coming soon. For now, screenshot or note the results page after each test.

What about the Science performance task?

The NYS Science exam includes a hands-on lab component that can't be replicated online. Our Science tests cover the written portions only. We note this clearly on each Science test.
